David E. Lamb, Organist and Director of Music
David Lamb came to Our Lady of Grace in January of 2011. A native of Jersey City, he holds a MMus from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He was a former Fulbright scholar to the United Kingdom, and was Assistant Organist of Ripon Cathedral in North Yorkshire. He is an Associate of the Royal College of Music, a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, and a Fellow of Trinity College, London. David has served at a number of large churches and cathedrals, most notably at the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, where he directed the cathedral choir of men and boys, the oldest such cathedral choir in the US. He is a nationally recognized expert in the training of children's voices.
Here at OLG, David oversees the historic Grand Organ (Wirsching, 1909), and directs the Parish Choir of adult, mixed voices, as well as being the founder and director of the Schola Cantorum of Our Lady of Grace - a choir that combines children and adult voices, and is modeled after the great European cathedral and monastery choirs.
The Parish Choir
Music is such a vital part of any liturgy, and having a fine Choir is necessary to provide solid leadership! Along with our amazing 1909 Wirsching Grand Organ (a New Jersey and Hoboken treasure!), we made an excellent start in rebuilding our Choir last year ... but that was only the beginning. We need more singers in all voice parts, and both David Lamb and the current members of our Choir would like to invite you to join us. Yes, it is a commitment, but it isn't all that difficult.
We pray through our music, as we learn and enjoy each other's friendship. Rehearsals are on most Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9 PM. We hope that you will consider being part of this very vital ministry. Pray for God's direction, and DON'T be afraid to give it a try!
The Schola Cantorum (Children's Choir)
Our Lady of Grace has two dynamic programs for boys and girls based upon the long-standing musical traditions of the great cathedrals and churches of Europe!
Young voices singing the greatest and most beautiful music ever to be composed has long been a tradition of many of the world's great churches. The opportunity to be part of such a tradition is now being offered at Hoboken's Church of Our Lady of Grace, one of the nation's oldest Roman Catholic parishes.
Under the direction of David Lamb, Director of Music, this is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn the joys that the gift of music can provide! Music fills young souls with joy and minds with learning, it is an educational experience on the highest level, and prepares the child for success later in life.
Children learn how to work as part of a team, set goals for themselves, and feel pride in the satisfaction of accomplishment. Membership in this amazing program is free of charge, and open to all children by passing a simple audition. Please encourage your child to be a part of this exciting venture, and arrange to meet David to get more information or to set up an audition!
