Vincent Rone, Organist and Director of Music

Vincent Rone came to Our Lady of Grace in August of 2015.

Vincent oversees OLG's historic Grand Organ (Wirsching, 1909). He also directs the Chancel Choir of mixed adult voices, as well as being the Children's choir, whose member range from seven to twelve years.  Both choirs learn the fundamentals of voice production, intonation, phrasing, vowel shaping, and part-singing. The choirs of OLG provide first-time singing experiences for several members.

About Vincent
Vincent earned an M.A./Ph.D. in Historical Musicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; an M.M. in Sacred Music/Organ Performance from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA; and a double B.A. in Theology and Fine Arts with a minor in Music from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ. His primary research focuses on the intersection of French musical responses to the Second Vatican Council of the Catholic Church (1962 - 1965).

While maintaining an active career as an organist and church musician, Vincent has presented papers at local, national, and international conferences and has publications appearing in Notes, The Church Music Association of America, and The American Organist. Vincent also researches film/video-game music, including The Lord of the Rings and The Legend of Zelda, and late-16th century madrigals. Vincent also has compositions published by the American Guild of Organists and also released on Raven records.

Finally, Vincent is an active educator, serving as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, as well as adjunct professor Fine Arts at both St. Peter's University and Union County College.

The Chancel Choir
Music is a vital part of the sacred liturgy, and choirs intefral to providing solid leadership. Along with our wonderful 1909 Wirsching Grand Organ (a New Jersey and Hoboken treasure!), OLG features an adult Chancel Choir, composed of dedicated, hard-working parishioners and guests. We always welcome more singers of all voice parts.  Both Vincent and the current members extend a warm invitation for your participation.  The commitment runs from the weekend after Labor Day through the feast of Christ the King, which normally occurs at the beginning of June.  Choral singing is one of the most rewarding activities for its camaraderie, synergy, and elevated form of prayer.

We pray through our music, as we learn and enjoy each other's friendship.  Rehearsals are on Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9pm. We hope that you will consider being part of this very vital ministry.

The Children's Choir
Young voices singing has long been a tradition of great churches. The Children's Choir experience will expose young singers to different types of sacred music. This choir sings at Mass on a monthly basis. The children often provide special music for communion and especially for feast days of the church.  Choir is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn the rewards music can provide, as it fills young souls with joy and minds with learning.

Children learn how to work as part of a team, set goals for themselves, and feel pride in the satisfaction of accomplishment, both individually and communally. Membership in this program is open to all children by passing a very simple audition. Please encourage your child to be a part of this exciting new venture and arrange to contact Vincent for further information. Rehearsals are each Tuesday, 3:30 - 4:15pm, and the season runs from the weekend after Labor Day until the Feast of Christ the King (early June).
